This paper illustrates a software- based implementation of sensorless field oriented control for permanent magnet synchronous motors using Microchip digital signal controllers, explains the process of stimating commutation angle and motor speed. Motor position and speed are estimated based on measured currents and calculated voltages. The position and speed estimator is based on a current observer.
