乱中返京时期是指唐肃宗至德二载(757)十一月到乾元元年(758)六月的一段时间。在此期间,杜甫担任左拾遗的职务,但因对现实政治和自己的政治前途的失望,既纵酒寻欢,希望归隐,又叹老嗟穷。同时,对诗歌创作更加重视。因为他出入宫廷,开始频繁采用七律的形式。经过他的努力,七律的艺术成就有了质的飞跃,标志着杜甫诗歌创作的全面繁荣。
