Modernity and the Revolution of Philosophy

现代性本质上是哲学反对基督教以建立一个哲学世界,以此改变自己的政治宗教处境的尝试。哲学革命的结果却导致哲学与宗教的双重衰落。哲学只有作为个人的生活方式,退出公共生活,重新回归自己的沉思本性,现代性危机才能被克服。

In essence, modernity is an ambitious attempt on the part of philosophy to set up a philosophic world in defiance of Christianity with the hope of changing its own political and religious situation. Yet this philosophic revolution only leads to the dual decline of both philosophy and Christianity. The crisis of modernity cannot be overcome until philosophy retreats from public life and retrieves its own meditative attributes by becoming a private mode of living.
