Directional word is not only a geographic concept but also a cultural phenomenon closely related to national cultures, religious thoughts and customs and habits. Targeted at the directional words in Hong Lou Meng, the paper discusses their cultural connotations and corresponding translation strategies and probes into their different intensity of language contact, language attitude and cultural postures in Chinese and western contexts, which are conducive to the introduction and diffusion of Chinese culture.
