Diachronic description of Tao Te Ching in the English world

在汉学研究高潮中,《道德经》成为被翻译得最频繁、发行量最大的中国典籍,现在已经有近一百多个不同的英译文本。本文分析了自理雅各以来英语世界的《道德经》接受现状,对《道德经》的英语世界行旅进行分期研究,描绘了《道德经》文本在英语世界的三次翻译高潮,并通过历时描述,揭示了因翻译所造成的翻译文本形象变迁。

Tao Te Ching is a classic whose appeal is as broad as its meaning is deep and has drawn endless interpretations over the past 2000 years. Next to the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching is the most translated book in the world with well over 100 different renditions in the English world alone, not to mention the dozens in other European languages. Yet, the translation fields have lar phenomenon.
