晚明清初是产生悲剧人物的悲剧地带。深沉强烈的悲剧意识是徐渭绘画意象的最根本特征。他画中风竹、兰花、葡萄、石榴、菊花、秋景等意象无不透露出他生不逢时、身世凄苦、怀才不遇、命运多舛、身不由己、孤寂无依。其绘画意象的悲剧品格与崇高风格,在中国古代绘画中是罕见的。

Late Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty was the tragic zone of tragic characters. Deep and strong tragic sense is the most essential feature of Xu Wei＇ s painting imago. The imago of bamboo, orchid, grape, guava, chrysanthemum, autumn scene in his painting all have the image of his poor background, being born in the wrong time, miserable fate, and loneliness. His tragic character and great style was very unusual in Chinese ancient painting.
