A Coincidence? The Inevitability of History——Analysis of Contemporary Chinese Women from Sister Carrie

本文以《嘉莉妹妹》的主人公嘉莉为实现自己的梦想而在城市中努力奋斗的经历和事迹为参照,同时结合当今中国社会女性的生存现状,尝试对二者在时代背景、文化传统、欲望追求以及自我意识等方面的极其相似之处进行比较与分析,提出两性关系和谐维系、共同发展的新思路,为中国女性发展的现状提供一个学理式的文本解读,也为新时期的女性研究提供一个可供参考的模式。

This paper, from such aspects as time, tradition, desire, self-consciousness, and contemporary development of Chinese women, in the light of Carrie, heroine of Sister Carrie, with her dreams in big cities, illustrates the harmonious development of the relationship between male and female, theoretically furnishes a textual illustration of the contemporary development of Chinese women and sets an advisable pattern of women study in the new age.
