Analysis of the underlying reasons of the differences between the two English versions of Mao Ze-dong's poems

运用贝尔曼关于翻译立场和翻译环境的理论,分析决定毛泽东诗词两译本(外文版译本和赵甄陶译本)译文面貌差异的深层次的翻译环境因素,旨在证明译者最终确立的翻译立场是译者向所处的翻译环境"妥协"的产物,译者在从事翻译活动时必然受到不同程度的翻译环境因素的制约和影响,有其不得不为之的非自主因素。这一点对于我们建立一个客观全面的翻译批评观具有一定的指导意义。

This paper is to analyze the environmental factors on translation underlying the differences between the two English versions of Mao Ze-dong＇s poems （one published by the Foreign Language Press in 1976 and the other translated by Zhao Zhen-tao）. From the perspective of Berman＇s theory of translator＇s standpoint of translating, it aims to demonstrate that the environmental factors can never be overlooked and that the translator＇s final standpoint of translating cannot be established until he reaches a compromise with the translation environment. The finding will help us develop a more objective and comprehensive approach to translation criticism.
