The authors have studied the relationship between the proximal phalanges length and height in 730(male 368, female 362)healthy children and adolescents of Han nationality from 7 to 18 years old, they were born and live at Qinghai -Tibet Plateau in 3000-4000 m above sea level. The proximal phalanges were measured on X-ray films. Results show: The third proximal phalanx is the longest in all. There is positive correlativety between phalanses length and height, 68. 33 % r>0. 6, 95. 83% P<0.01. The growth tendency of all proximal phalanges and body height is almost parallel, the growth spurt of them is during 12-15 years old in male, and 11 - 14 years old in female. The indexes on the length of every proximal phalanges to height are up very slowly with age,the growth rate of index of the third proximal phalanx is the slowest in all. The regression cquations on predicting height for adolescents in this region were provided.
