CELEBRATION OF WUCHUANJUNTS 90TH BIRTHDAY——A Brief Introduction to Academician Wu Chuanjun

Born in April of 1918,Wu Chuanjun,academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences,graduated from the Department of Geography,Central University in 1941,and obtained his Master Degree from the same university in 1943.

Born in April of 1918, Wu Chuanjun, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, graduated from the Department of Geography, Central University in 1941, and obtained his Master Degree from the same university in 1943. In 1948, Wu Chuanjun gained his PhD from Liverpool University. During his academic career, he has served successively as lecturer of the Central University, lecturer of Liverpool University, professor and the deputy director of Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1991, he was elected as an academician ,of Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1990, he was president and honorary president of Geographical Society of China up to now. As the leading scientist in Chinese economic geography and human geography, he has been the concurrent professor in more than ten universities. Professor Wu Chuanjun has led the Chinese geographical delegations to attend international conferences many times, and he has made great contributions to the cooperation and exchange between Chinese geographical science and international geographical science. He was the consultant to the president of UN University from 1980 to 1983, the vice president of IGU from 1988 to 1996, and the editorial member of the Geo Journal from 1988 to 1995.
