An all-round discussion is presented on the charateristics and geographical distribution of China's steam coal resources,emphasizing the necessity of improving the quality and utilization of steam coals. Issues relating to the adjustment of the mix of coal products are expounded, such as conserving the coking coal resources with high caking property, laying stress on the balance of the production and distribution of anthracite, using high quality lignite for in-depth processing and limiting the production of inferior coals.
