How to account for different types of phonological opacity has long been a challenge to Optimality Theory(OT) ever since it appeared.The present paper first gives a brief account of what opacity is and then discusses in greater detail the three major ways of analyzing different types of opacity within the OT framework.The discussion here involves the newly advanced OT solutions,e.g.OT-CC,to the opacity problem.
