本文介绍了锰结壳的一般特征,内部构造,矿物成份,元素分布特征以及锰结壳与锰结核形态,构造、矿物、化学成份和成因上的差异。
Manganese crusts are mainly distributed on tops and slopes of submarine mountains and plateaus with water depth from 500 to 3000m. Crust substrates are basalt, hyaloclastite, altered basalt, smectite rock and calcareous ooze. Crust thickness is mostly between 2 and 4cm. The surface of crusts generally shows a knotty, botryoidal or kidney structure. Main minerals are δ-MnO2 todorokite and goethite. Crusts have laminary structure. Two crust generations have been observed. Between the two is a phosphate layer. The older crust layer is rich in Cu and Mn, while the younger one in Co and Fe. Compared with manganese nodules, crusts are richer in Co and Fe and poorer in Cu and Ni, and lower in Mn/Fe values.
There is a positive correlation between Co and Mn/Fe in crust, while a negative correlation in nodule. 2REE of crust is higher than that of nodule, and 6Ce anomaly of crust is also stronger than that of nodule.
