The Heroic Epic Wo Bau-Sae

无锡流传400年的《华抱山》,是"中国四大英雄史诗"之一,叙唱华龙根、华抱山、华龙龙三代英雄史迹。它具备史诗特征:抗击封建王朝、官府和地主势力,前赴后继,悲壮激烈;英雄形象具有神话色彩;史诗传承之庄严性,吸引众多学者探讨《华抱山》之史诗特征与文化价值、艺术价值。《华抱山全集》出版有两大功臣:传唱者华祖荣、搜集整理者朱海荣。

The Epic Wo Bau-Sae, one of the four famous epics in China, has been singing in Wuxi for 400 years. It sings about the heroic stories of three generations of Hua Longgen, Wo Bau- Sae and Hua Longlong. The backdrop of the story is set in the Ming Dynasty, when the hero Wo Bau-Sae participated in a rebellion against Ming rule. In the epic, the image of the heroes is full of mysterious color. Recently it has attracted numerous scholars to probe into its epic features and cultural and artistic values. There are two persons contribute to the publication of the Complete Volume of Wo Bau-Sae： Hua Zurong （the singer） and Zhu Hairong （the collector）
