摘要
目前，全国13亿多人口中乡村人口占56.1％（2006年国家统计局公布的数据）。一些中西部地区乡村人口比例可达到70—80％．农村居民的人均收入一般只有城镇居民人均收入的40％。关注广大农村居民的法律援助需求。已经成为推动法律援助工作深入发展的重要内容。今年以来，司法部将“加强农村法律援助工作”列为重点工作任务。各地也普遍开展了农村的法律援助工作，主要进行了以下探索和实践。
At present, among the total 1.3 billion people of China, 56.1 percent ,of them live in the rural areas （according to the statistical data published by the National Bureau of Statistics of China）, furthermore in some areas of the middle and western China, the proportion of the people living in the rural areas is estimated to reach as high as 70 percent to 80 percent. However at the same time, the per capita income of the inhabitants of the rural areas is generally 40 percent of that of the urban residents. Consequently, attaching more attention to the needs of legal aid of the rural inhabitants has become one of those important factors which help further develop the legal aid works. Since the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Justice has laid the task of ＂strengthening the legal aid works in rural areas＂ in the list of its key tasks, meanwhile legal aid works in rural areas has been carried out in all parts of the country. The followings aspects are the main practical and exploring works which have been done so far.
