After discussing the concepts of library planning, long-range planning and strategic planning, this paper reviews the application of long-range planning and strategic planning to public libraries and the major benefits that strategic planning has brought to public library management, By examining the correlation of strategic planning with public libraries in today＇s China, the author concludes that strategic planning is useful even necessary.
