中日关系可望进一步改善

China-Japan Relations Are Expected to Make Further Improvement

中日关系自邦交正常化以来经历30多年的风风雨雨，终于提升到了一个具有战略意义的新高度。进入21世纪，摆在中日两国面前的最大课题是：对中日关系重要性、复杂性保持理性认识，努力排除、化解和超越各种战略对抗因素，使双方的战略猜忌转变为战略理解，并达成一定的战略合作。胡锦涛主席即将对日本的国事访问，将开辟中日战略互惠关系的新阶段，是中国为中日关系进入一个长期、健康、稳定发展的新轨道作出的新贡献。

After going through more than 30 years of trials and hardships since the normalization of relations between China and Japan, those relations have finally been elevated to a new height that has strategic importance. The most vital task facing the two countries upon entering the 21st century is that the two sides should have a rational understanding about the importance and complexity of China-Japan relations, try to clear away, ease off and draw away various strategic confrontational elements, and reach a certain degree of strategic cooperation by turning strategic suspicion against each other into strategic understanding between each other. President Hu Jintao is scheduled to pay a state visit to Japan very soon. His visit will open up a new stage of a strategic and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries, and for China to make new contributions to leading China-Japan ties along a new track of long-term, healthy and steady development.
