The Harmonious Concept of Taishan Culture in the Name of Mountain Taishan

地名是人与自然交互作用的产物,从泰山的名称及其含义的阐释来看,在其丰富的文化内涵中,和谐观念有着突出的表现。泰山(或太山、大山)为地、天、人、神等因素的和谐共处提供了一个物质的与观念的符号基础;岱、岱宗则充分体现了传统文化中以他平他、阴阳相济相承、多样性统一的和谐观念;岱岳、东岳体现了五岳制度下,泰山以五岳之长的身份成为华夏民族宇宙观中世界整齐和谐的空间秩序的山岳表征;而宗教对泰山的多重解释,则表现了泰山文化中多元宗教和谐共存的局面。

A place name is the outcome of the interaction of both the human beings and nature. This is the case of Mount Tai with its rich culture meanings. We can observe the prominent feature of the hannonious concept from the name of Mount Tai and the interpretation of the meaning. Taishan （or Taishan, Da slum） provides a physical and idealistic symbol for harmonious coexistence of earth, heaven, people and God; the names of Dai and Daizong fully represent the harmonious concept in China＇ s traditional culture, such as reducing the power of something by itself, integrating of Yang and Yin and unifying the diversity of things; the names of Daiyue and Dongyue exhibit that Mount Tai , the most important one of the Five Sacred Mountains, as the symbol of all. Taishan is the symbol of the space order of harmonious universe in the mind of Chinese people; the diverse interpretations of the name of Mount Tai by the Taishan religion also reflect the harmonious coexistence of different religions in the Taishan culture.
