On Laozi's Thoughts about "Shangyin Chongmu" and Its Origin

"尚阴崇母"是老子思想最为鲜明的特点之一。这种崇尚女性的思想与中国传统中男尊女卑的思想是大不相同的,因而在中国思想史上,有着极其重要的地位。而这种思想的来源则受到了原始女神崇拜神话和殷商文化的影响,也是对西周末年父权文化的一种反思。

＂Shangyin Chongmu＂ was one of the brightest characteristics in Laozi＇s thoughts. This thought advocating feminine has an extremely important status in the Chinese thought history, because it is entirely different from the thought of treating women as inferiors in Chinese tradition. This thought originated from primitive myths of goddess worship and Yin-Shang culture and also was a reflection on male chauvinism at the end of West Zhou Dynasty.
