明代货币制度经历了从明初"禁银"到后期"皆用银"的发展过程。然而,在"禁银"的铜钱和纸钞时期,从政府到民间,白银并没有退出了商品交换的舞台,始终是商品交换的重要媒介,充当着一般等价物。因此,洪武元年至宣德十年,政府法令"禁银",而现实中仍然"用银"的时期是"虚拟银本位时期"。
