With the development of the modern shipping industry, some ships reduced their manning. Such reduction in manning may cause new problems concerning the safety of the ships. This essay analyses these reasons, such as fatigue of the crew, implementation of the ISM Code and the mere pursuit of benefits and sets forth some suggestions to solve the problems in question.
