徐复观解释学的核心是"追体验"。"追体验"是以工夫修养过程塑造人格为基础的解释学,它与西方以伽达默尔为代表的以文本为核心,将"前理解"合法化,从而陷入"解释学的循环"的哲学解释学有根本的不同。这种不同来自于中西哲学思想的差异,简言之即"质的名词"与"逻各斯的概念"、"人文逻辑"与"形式逻辑"的不同。"追体验"以还原作者的原意为解释学目标,真正的解释是通过解释者境界的提升达到理解的飞跃,走出"解释学循环",实现"解释学突破"。由于徐复观的解释学摒弃了由乾嘉学派的训诂考据学追求某种"绝对"传统文本的"绝对"理解,而将理解的意义体验化,它称得上是中国传统考据训诂的注释方法向现代解释学迈进的典范。
