历史时期土家族地区土司对统治阶层内部、土民、外来人口、相邻土司及非土司地区采取了相应的控制措施。这些措施对维护土司的社会统治起到了重要作用,但存在着一定的弊端。

In historical period, Chieftains in the areas of Tujia Nationality took different controlling measures to manage the people within the ruling class, the aborigines, the immigrants, and the neigboring chieftain controlled areas and the areas not controlled by chieftains. The different measures played very important role in maintaining the lulling of the chieftains, but there were also some problems in them.
