Many countries and companies wor dw de continued to strive energetically for exploitation of replaceable and renewable energy and made remarkable progress in this sector in 2007. The year of 2007 saw the most rapid development of bio-fuels in the world. The United Nations released the report on biomatter energy. The United States and Brazil are leading ethanol fuel producers in the world and have reached the agreement for strengthening cooperation in the biofuel field. The US Department of Energy announced investment for development of renewable energy in 2007 and funded US companies for using cellulose as raw material for ethanol production in an attempt to make the production cost of cellulose ethanol to compete with gasoline by 2012. Republic of Korea has made active use of its overseas resources for development of replaceable energy and invested a construction project for using cassava for production bio-fuel in Papua New Guinea in 2007. A total of 13 ROK companies have signed the initial agreements for cooperative development of oil sand blocks in Canada.
