This paper presents a high voltage pulse power supply (PPS) using solid-state switches for automobile exhaust gas treatment. The proposed PPS has the topology of two stages of inductive energy storage, which is charged from 12V automobile storage battery. The middle storage capacitor is used as energy transfer component and the step-up pulse transformer is employed to provide high voltage pulses to the electrode of reactor for treating automobile exhaust gas. The work principle of the main circuit is analyzed, the dynamic running process is modeled and analytically solved and a set of typical simulation working waveform is provided by the Matlab. The results can he used for the design of PPS circuit and the choice of components and their parameters. In order to consider the influence of real parameters of components, especially the solid state opening switch, the PSpice simulation method is adopted for obtaining the working waveforms and the output characteristic for all kinds of loads. It is indicated that the PPS can be operated under a range of various loads, including resistive, inductive and capacitive loads. The output characteristic can be used to improve the design of circuit and the selection of parameters for user. The output pulse voltage with 200ns rise time, 30kV amplitude, 1μs pulse width and lkHz repetition rate is gained for the reactor load with equivalent circuit parameter of 10pF capacitor and 1MΩ resistor in parallel connection, which proves that the PPS can be applied to clean the automobile exhaust gas.
