Some thoughts on the Shanghai premiere of Haydn's The Seasons

2008年4月，东方艺术中心的音乐厅里，一部传世杰作在艺术家的合作下重新响起。在美国指挥家尼尔森的指挥下，海顿的清唱剧《四季》，在首演207年后终于面对上海的观众奏响。这次演出的意义当然远不止于此，冠以“自然中国”计划的名头，演出本身又增添了一层社会功能。节目册中反复被提到的那些概念：“保护环境”、“关爱自然”，俨然为2008年的春季刷上了一层绿色。

Last month, the Oriental Art Centre Music Hall presented Haydn＇s The Seasons, which is a masterpiece of choral musiC., Under the direction of John Nelson, this work appears in China for the first time, 207 years after its world premiere. Because the concert was billed also as an event for environmental protection, it sent a very clear message to all of us： celebrate and protect the beauty of China＇s natural surroundings.
