格林德伯恩歌剧节创办于1934年，至今已有74年的历史。该歌剧节每年均会上演歌剧124场，到现场观摩格林德伯恩歌剧的观众多达15万人。格林德伯恩歌剧节从每年的5月进行到8月，巡演剧团则在10月至12月间进行巡演，每年约有8．6万名观众参加歌剧节，观摩巡演剧团演出的则有5．5万人。
