浅谈《红楼梦》中双关语的英译

双关语作为一种常用的修辞格,具有丰富语言表达、强化语言效果的功能,在日常生活、语言交际、文学作品中被广泛运用。本文探讨了双关语在《红楼梦》中的运用及英译,并结合实例及杨宪益、霍克斯的英译分析得出以下结论:对双关语的英译需从语义、语用和文化的角度进行对比分析,运用恰当的翻译方法,才能使译文既尽可能保留原文的特色,又达意确切。

Pun, as a common rhetoric, can enrich language expressions and enforce the effect of language. In everyday life, it is widely used in communication and literature works. In this paper the author explores the usage and English translation of puns in The Dream in the Red Mansion;and it combines examples with the analysis of its English editions translated by Yang Xianyi and Hawkes ,and makes the following conclusion： the comparative analyses should be done from semantics, pragmatics and culture in the English translation of puns and appropriate methods should be applied so as to make the translation faithful to the origin.
