The construction image of prostitutes made by the press of Hangzhou during the decade of the Nanjing National Government was miserable and profligate. The abolition of prostitution in Hangzhou municipal government derived from its resolution to eradicate dark side and exhibit regime dignity. The specific mode of regulation to be adopted by the local government was affected by many factors.
