From Confrontation to Coexistence——The Changes of the Relationship between the Malays and the Ethnic Chinese in Malaysia

马来西亚独立初期,马、华两族曾发生严重的种族冲突。此后,政府一方面大力扶持马来人,另一方面也适时调整华人政策,平衡马、华两族的政治经济利益与文化诉求,使两族关系逐步从对抗走向共荣,但共存共荣中又充满着矛盾和竞争。未来两族关系的发展,也是有利条件和不利条件的并存。

In Malaysia, there were serious ethnic conflicts between the Malays and the ethnic Chinese in the initial stages of independence. Later, the government has triad hard to support the Malays and at the same time adjustad the policy on the ethnic Chinese so as to balance the advantage between them. Thus the ethnic relationship has gone from confrontation to coexistence. However, there are lot of contradiefions and competitions in this coexistence and co-prosperity. The advantageous and disadvantageous factors will affect the ethnic relation in the future.
