Kongzi Hetan Ji(Minutes of the Music Altar of Confucius)is an ancient folk literary work of Daoism in the Northwestern China. Its Chinese original has been long lost, but only the Tangut version preserved.Scholars found that the narrative thread of that work was originated from the 31st Chapter of Zhuangzi. It is further pointed out in the present paper that its Chinese original was compiled no early than the middle Tang times by an author of no means literacy, and the substance of this work is a blending of Buddhism and Daoism, which reflects the secularization of religion in the Tang,Song and Xixia times. The last part of the paper includes the reconstruction of the Chinese original in accordance with its Tangut version,in order to provide some fundamental materials for the study of Tangutology and folk literature in our Gansu Corridor.
