The Explanation of the Concept of Value in De Saussure's Linguistic Sign Principles

索绪尔认为"语言是一个纯粹的价值系统",而其价值概念和系统理论又是密切相关的,他的价值概念是理解其系统理论的基础,因此对其价值概念的认识在语言学的研究和学习中至关重要。文章分别从概念(所指)、物质(能指)和符号的整体三方面来分析语言符号的价值概念,从而对其形成了这样的认识:语言是有关价值的符号系统。语言价值来自符号系统中语言要素之间的多种相互关系,来自系统中的差别和对立。

De Saussure considered that ＂language is only a system of pure values＂, and his concept of value is closely related to his system principles, and it is also the key to understand the system principles, therefore, it is important to learn the concept of value. It will be explained from the aspects of the conceptual viewpoint, the material viewpoint and its totality, and at last, it concludes that： language is a sign system related to value, and the value of language is based on the differences and the various relations of the linguistic terms in the system of a language.
