摘要
谭恩美是当今美国文坛颇为引人瞩目的一位美国华裔女作家。1989年她的处女作《喜福会》刚一出版就引起了巨大的轰动,曾经占据《纽约时报》畅销书排行榜达9个月之久,并包括获得全美图书奖,海湾地区小说评论奖等在内的多个重要奖项。《喜福会》由16个相互交织的小故事组成,表现了移民美国的四位中国母亲和他们各自在美国土生土长的女儿们之间的关系和冲突。揭示了作者为了迎合西方读者的口味,而不惜集中地大量地呈现旧中国某些陋习的东方主义情愫。
Amy Tan, a prominent figure in contemporary American literary world, has drawn much attention from mainstream critics at home and abroad. Her first novel, The Joy Luck Club, was published in 1989 and stayed on New York Times bestseller list for nine months and won several prestigious literary awards including the National Book Award for Fiction, the Bay Area Book Reviewers Award and so on for her. The Joy Luck Club contains sixteen interwoven short stories about the relationship and conflicts between four mothers immigrated from China and their American - born daughters. This paper tries to analyze the elements embodied in Amy Tan' s The Joy Luck Club from the perspective of Orientalism.
