With the definition of the speech bus and switching standards for PC, the creation of more complicated CO-based call processing systems using the programmability and switching capacity of PC is considered. The development trend of CTI is to integrate as many functions into the PC as possible. In this paper, the VM system constituents and speech platform functions are analysed and it is pointed out that the future VMS market lies in the central offices or large enterprises.
