Cost effective product development at a world class level requires a combination of agile manufacturing and engineering technologies. The combination of these technologies with an institutionalized integrated product and process development environment promotes high quality products which meet all performance objectives, are cost effective, and can be efficiently manufactured. For companies to compete at a world class level, they must adopt this operating practice and introduce facilitating tools. Many of these tools are mature and have been used extensively in the product development process, while others are evolving. This paper will provide an overview of the integrated product development process and the agile technologies which can support the process.
