In the history of Australia-Japan relationship, the signing of the Commerce Agreement between Australia and Japan in 1957 was a historical event with remarkable sense. There were many factors which promoted it. A relatively long-time exchange of economy and commerce, and economic complementarity, were no doubt important basis for it, a gradually political contact in the post-war period created a helpful atmosphere for bilateral cooperation of economy and commerce, and meantime, a relatively complex situation of international politics and economy was further increasing the process of this cooperation.
