On Yu Yue's Exegesis Thoughts and Methods

俞樾是晚清著名的经学家和训诂学家。他充分继承和发扬了高邮王念孙、王引之父子的治学方法,在其代表作《群经平议》和《诸子平议》中提出了许多训诂思想和原则,并在训诂实践中运用多种训诂方法解决群经、诸子中的疑难问题。这些思想和方法对晚清训诂学以及后代训诂学的发展都产生了很大的影响。

Yu Yue was a well - known and prolific linguist and specialist of the late Qing Dynasty in Confucian classics. He carried on scholarly investigative methods employed by Wang Niansun and Wang Yinzhi, the father and son. He proposed many exegesis thoughts and principles of explaining words in ancient books in his masterpieces Qunjing Pingyi（《群经平议》）, Zhuzi Pingyi（《诸子平议》）, and made use of them to solve many problems of Qunjing and Zhuzi in practices in terms of terminology of explaining words in ancient books. These thoughts and methods bear a tremendous influence during the late Qing Dynasty and the later period.
