α - Bromoketones reacted with carbonyl compounds to yied only β - hydroxyketones in moderate to high yields promoted by aluminum triiodide, prepared from metallic aluminum and iodime in situ in tetrahedronfuran at room temperature, and the rdaction showed high syn selectivity.
