The "Xuan" Theory and Some Interrelated Topics

本文对中国哲学中最常见的用语——"玄"作探讨。认为"深奥不可知、微远不可见、幽昧不可测"的"玄"之字义与"玄"之字形—(■)(葫芦)有关,并在此基础上对"玄"之字音和写法作了界定。文章还对与"玄"相关的事情作了梳理,并分析了物象世界产生"玄"事的原因。文章最后对与"玄"相关的理论作了阐发,提出置"玄"(悬)法和览"玄"法。其中梳理了若干个结合两极对立的览"玄"法,认为如能将人我、身心、有无、正反、悬漩等融合统一,倒是有可能览玄知化的。

This paper presents an analysis of the “xuart” that is characteristic of Chinese philosophy. It proposes that the semantic dimension of “xuan” is related with its gourd-like written form of Chinese characters, and attempts the definitions of its tone and written form. Some interrelated issues are discussed in this paper, including the roots of “xuan” in the nature, and two methods to approach this theory, “suspending xuan” and “viewing xuan .”
