Study of English Humorous Utterance Translation from the Perspective of Relevance Theory

幽默言语翻译的目的是传达原文作者的交际意图,体现幽默效果。根据关联理论,英语幽默言语翻译是一种明示——推理交际行为,英语幽默言语翻译是一种动态的阐释过程,译者的责任主要是努力寻求原幽默言语的认知语境与目的语认知语境的最佳关联,实现幽默言语翻译的目的。根据Gut t提出的直接翻译和间接翻译的策略,详细阐述了直接翻译的适用情况和补充法、转换法、功能翻译法、译出隐含法等间接翻译的具体方法。

The purpose of English humorous utterance translation is to convey communicative intention and reflect humor effect. According to Relevance theory, English humorous utterance translation is an ostensive-inferential communicative act as well as a dynamic interpretive process. Translator should try to pursue optimal relevance between the cognitive context of the original humorous utterance and that of the target language and realize the purpose of humor translation. According to the strategies of Gutt＇s direct translation and indirect translation, this paper explains the proper use of direct translation and puts forward the concrete methods of indirect translation, such as adding, shifting, functional translation, and rendering implication.
