2008年5月12日发生在四川汶川的8级大地震，给当地人民的生命与财产造成了重大损失。据初步统计，此次地震受灾最严重的地区是四川省的北川、什邡、绵竹、汶川、彭州等地，灾区涉及四川、甘肃、陕西、重庆、云南等省市。破坏特别严重的地区逾10万km^2。造成大量人员遇难、受伤、被埋或失踪，上千万问房屋倒塌或损坏，大量受灾群众无家可归，

May 12, 2008, Wenchuan, Sichuan province, an earthquake had caused a disaster to people＇s life and huge damage to the property in the area. The Anti-earthquake and Disaster-relief Headquarters immediately recruited from all over China great amount of special vehicles and freight trucks and send them to the stricken area for disaster relief task.
