A Probe into the Flourish and Declination of Ghost Fair in Yunding

隆昌云顶寨郭氏宗族,自其始祖郭孟四入川以来,距今六百多年,其间经历三朝,传二十九世,发展到现在已不下五千人,曾为川南首富。郭氏家族遗留下的云顶寨和因寨而起的云顶场现为省级保护单位。本文着重介绍云顶鬼市的传说始末。

Since their primogenitor GUO Meng-si entered Sichuan, the gens of GUO in Yunding stockaded village in Longchang County have seen their history of over 600 years, during which they experienced three dynasties and twenty-nine generations and were once the richest family. Till now, their members are over 5,000. The stockaded village left behind by the gens and the fair in it are now the protected provincial units. The Yunding fair is well-known as ＂Ghost Fair＂ for the fact that villagers went to the market in the middle night and left when the cock crowed the day.
