Located within a national park. the POLA Museum of Art has been constructed with almost all of the buildings placed underground. To protect the people and artworks from earthquake damage, a base isolation system has been used. A basin-shaped structure has been used for the base structure to enable it to effectively resist earth and water pressure. The upper structure is cross shaped in plan, with a section shape that shrinks downward to match the base structure. The upper structure has double-crossed main trusses and sub trusses, providing high safety and stability in the case of earthquake. So these trusses and loase isolation system make it possible to create an atrium environment with Light filtering down, highly transparent glass skyllght, and cross shaped steel columns.
