A field experiment was conducted in the standard farmland around Taxing Town in Hefei to investigate the effects of heavy metal concentration in rice grains. Thirty samples of rice grains were collected, and the concentration of As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Cu, Zn, Cr and Ni were measured. The concentrations of Ni, Cd and Hg in rice grains were 70%, 16. 67% and 6.67% higher, respectively, than the China National Extractive Industry Standard for Food. The concentration of Cu in some samples were near, although still lower than, the China National Extractive Industry Standard for Food. Cd and Hg should be frequently monitored and closely controlled as the priorities in consideration of human health risks associated with consumption of the grain of rice grown in Daxing area.
