On the Cultural Meaning of English and Chinese Color words

每一个民族的语言都有自己的颜色词系统。各个民族颜色词使用的差异可以反映出不同民族文化心理和审美情趣的差异,从而导致喻义的差异。本文试图通过对英汉颜色词中主要七种颜色的文化意义的分析和比较,来说明语言是文化的组成部分,是文化的载体,由此体现出了语言的文化载储功能。

The language of each nation has its own system of color words. Different usages of color words may reflect different cultural psychology and aesthetic interests of different nations, which results in analogy differences. The thesis is trying to illustrate that language is a part of culture and also the carrier of culture through the analysis and comparison of the cultural meaning of seven major colors from English and Chinese color words. In a word, language has the function of storing and carrying culture.
