The Age of Innocence, the Pulitzer winner, is one of the most successful works by the American modern novelist Edith Wharton. By means of her unique narrative strategies, Wharton depicts the theme of repression and confinement over women. This essay suggests that, to a great extent, the narrative devices such as ＂visibility＂ theory, elision, along with repetition, contribute to this fiction＇s aesthetic effect, which intensifies its feminist implication.
