Dorothy Day was called "the Mother of American Catholic Pacifism" and played a vital role in modem American Catholic social thoughts. In the debate on Spanish Civil War, she criticized the attitude held by the majority of American Catholic bishops and Medias that Loyalists was evil for its persecution on Spanish Catholic Church and tradition and Franco were good for his fighting against Loyalists and Communists. She argued both sides had some evil and good aspects. The key point is not to make a moral judgment, but to reflect the violence waged in the cruel and evil war. It is Love, not War that can save the Church and Civilization. In general, her Pacifism came from her Catholic faith and transcended realist consideration about political interest.
