In the novel Ceremony, through the depiction of Tayo' s recovery of health, reconstruction of identity and restoration of harmonious relationship with the cosmos under the help of the medicine men, Silko reveals the significance of hybridity and change in transforming a broken victim to a healthy being. The novel reminds people of the relationship between tradition and modernity, and demonstrates that the way for the Indians to construct new identity in the multi-cultural era is to protect national culture and to take in the modern elements from other cultures critically.
