By scrutinizing Tamora and Lavinia, two heroines of Titus Andronicus, incorrectly interpreted as a pair of characters in absolute contrast, viz. Tamora emobodying vice and lechery and Lavinia representing virtue and chastity, this thesis points out the similarity of the images related to them as well as their common sufferings, and attempts to explain it by reviewing the social status of Renaissance English women.
