This paper introduces traditional mode of making the foreign trade assessment, establishes some valuable comprehensive evaluation systems in which the more representative ones are CTPI （ Chinese Trade Performance Index） and TDI （Trade and Development Index）, and points out that making right evaluation on the current foreign trade assessment system is helpful to understand its connotation and applicability.
